The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation has awarded the EEPN a grant to support the Shrink project reaching out to some of the biggest users of paper in the UK. Their generous donation will enable us to work with 20 big UK companies and help them to cut their paper use. We have identified 5 magazine publishers, 5 supermarkets, 5 catalogue retailers and 5 banking and insurance companies, which all have big opportunities to cut packaging and office waste and use paper more efficiently. Doing so will not only do environmental and social good, it will also save them money!
Over the next two years we will work to engage with these companies, offering them encouragement and motivation and tools like the Environmental Defense's Paper Calculator (www.papercalculator.org) to analyse how much money, energy, climate change emissions, water and trees they can save by using less paper. We will invite them to become part of the Shrink community of paper savers, working together and being supported to make a cumulative positive impact.
